Ideas for Family Game Night

Remember the times of family game night?

Well maybe not. It may have been before you were born. Back in the 60’s and 70’s board games, or board game night was very popular. Yes, TV’s were invented and people were huddled around a smaller off color Television, but they were actually together watching those programs.

Before getting into ideas for family game night, here’s what can typically happen because of this media filled life that we all are part of.

Do you ever run into issues with watching football instead of spending time with your family? Does your wife want to do other things with the family, being outdoors and getting a nice seasonal experience this time of year?

Some families go ahead and watch a game together and love it!

What about those who are not naturally inclined to sit and watch a whole game, so would rather be doing other things when at home such as watching videos on their tablet?

Well, there are a couple options with some new and some not so new ideas. I will surely welcome your comments even if it does not pertain to one of these suggestions..

Ideas for Family Game Night

#1 Go ahead and get a board game.

Thats it! You know what to do with that.

#2 Watch a football game together.

As mentioned simply watching a game in the fall together can be a real challenge for ones who are not ready to invest the time into something they are not so passionate about.

#3 Play Fantasy Football Together.

This option takes quite a bit of setup, but it can be done when planned ahead. You would just have to find a non-season long league. Downsides could be many such as lack of understanding of the game of fantasy and many more.

What a great idea on games that could be play on family night, it is ideal for a family to play a board game such as monopoly or cash flow escape the rat race but the app that you recommmend which is firefan app and it is ideal if a family really likes sports such as MLB and MLS or NFL. For my family, soccer would be our choice and it would be a lot of fun to play together.

  3. I love this!! I have a group of friends that I get together with to play board games, we call it ‘family games night.’ We always have so much fun! And one of our rules is that we can not use our phones. Its nice to spend time with those you really care about and actually be fully present in the moment. I recommend everyone should have a games night!!

  4. This a great idea and I will encourage you to go ahead, well I am used to social media. But I want to do away with most of them and go on with only Facebook. Alright which games do you offer which may make me busy. Do you have any games that I may download and store in tablet or desktop to watch later. I will appreciate if you assist me on this

My husband always watches football with his friends on the weekend, and this is the reason he doesn’t pay attention to us anymore.     1. Daniella, glad you found it, great news for you. There is nothing to ship! Its an app you simply download, and register from your phone to get started. NFL action is great for it. Just choose plays as prompted, your phone will update you in notifications.

    We had long nights with Risk, monopoly, spend a million etc. Now you got me nostalgic!
    I’m not so much in to sport, so don’t think your recommended app is anything for me. But maybe it’s time to reintroduce board game nights in to my life again.

  7. Very interesting article indeed. It seems that in this day and age, everyone, including adults and parents, are stuck to their smartphones 24/7. I lament the times that families actually sat around and talked to each other.
    As anew father I am strong in my belief that technology should assist parenting, not replace it. Thanks for the ideas!

  9. Great list! Nowadays, our there is so much going on in our lives that we forget the most important thing in life – spending quality time with our loved ones. Regardless of what we end up doing, the fact the everyone is gathered and having fun is already a winner! Keep the list coming! I am sure there are more than 100 ways to make a family game night more fun! 🙂

    I shoud say first off, I have a closet full of board games and they have an inch of dust on them. I think you can play them only so many times and then done. Your ideas and creativity are great and I will look forward to using them with my family.

  11. Hello here. It is interesting to read about your offers how to spend a quality time with family playing board games.
    In this modern world people do not communicate so often as it was 30 or 20 years ago.
    The lack of human interaction leads to actions which can not be easy changed, such as divorce.
    I wonder if people would like to play your offered games more often?
    Overall your ideas sound great because it could remove gaps between humans. My family had board games. We had plenty of fun teasing each other when somebody lost or won. Games let people relax, trust more each other and have fun.

  12. This is a great article! I couldn’t agree with you more. Playing games with the family is a great way to spend time together and to bond. My family loves to play pictionary when we get together. We play boys vs girls and it’s always a blast. I will have to check this app out for all the sports lovers in our group.
